report issued by (Hona Aden Center) warns of the deteriorating situation in Aden under the control of theUAE-backed STC, and its repudiation of the Riyadh Agreement (RA) commitment.

A report issued by the Hona Aden Center for Strategic Studies warned against the continued self-rule of the UAE-backed STCin Aden, and the failure to implement the RA, among the Saudi silence, the government’s inability, and the STC’s disavowal, with the UAE’s support and guidance.

The report, which was recently issued under the title “UAE’s Absurdity in Aden”, stated that the situation in Aden is deteriorating further under the control of the STC forces, which share the city, plunder its resources and forfeit the rights of its residents, noting that the STC is currently heading to escalate the situation, by means of storming the state institutions, controlling them, as well as continuous formation of  security and military units outside the framework of the official state institutions, and in flagrant defiance of the RA and the Saudi leadership that sponsors and supports the agreement.

The report indicated that the leaders of the STC and officials of loyal armed formations control dozens of facilities and financial resources; seize the resident’s funds and prevent their access to the Central Bank, which leads to halt employee’s salaries, deteriorates public services, and compounds the citizen’s suffering.

The report indicated that the manifestations of the deterioratingsituation in Aden included various economic and security aspects, unprecedented deterioration of services, the suppression of peaceful events and civil protests, the storming of ministries and institutions, breaking into houses, abduction of citizens, plunder of lands and looting of public and private property.

The head of the Hona Aden Center for Strategic Studies, journalist Anis Mansour Hamida, said that the report is considered as a special character, that is consistent with the recent developments, namely the STC’s  administrative failure in Aden; outbreak of internal conflicts between the STC’s armed factions, issuance of decisions by the STC President, Aidarous al-Zubaidi, and taking the role of the state in light of the KSAfailure in restoring the legitimate government to Aden, besides lack of actual guarantees.

Anis Mansour explained that the report was based on a set of events, field data, and a survey of certain influential and intellectual figures in Aden, who reviewed the deployment of UAE troops in seven military areas in southern Yemen, most notably in Aden, Mocha, Mukalla, Shabwah, Hodeidah, andSocotra, not to mention the cantonment of the UAE forces in sovereign centers and vital places, such as ports, islands, airports, coasts and the Bab al-Mandab Strait.

The report called upon the leadership of the Saudi-led coalition to put pressure on the parties to implement the RA entirely, and without any procrastination, delay or disruption, and urged thepresidency and the legitimate government to comprehensivelyaddress its performance during the past period, and to find a clear vision of what actions should be taken in the coming period, stressing the need to activate the most important institutions, foremost of which are the Parliament, the Central Authority for Control, Audit, and Anti-Corruption, Courts and Public Prosecutions, which strengthens the state’s presence, enhances the performance of its duties and addresses errors and imbalances.
